Aden takes an integrative approach to counselling and psychotherapy, which combines humanistic, client-centred and psychoanalytic ideas and techniques, and recognises the unique complexity and potential of each individual.
He typically sees clients over 20 years old who are looking for help with interpersonal issues, depression and anxiety or those seeking more meaning and motivation in their lives.
Aden first moved to Asia almost 20 years ago. Originally working as an English teacher in Phnom Penh back in 2003, he has since lived in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, UK and the Netherlands – and experienced first hand many of the challenges that come with being an expat. He has now lived and worked in Hanoi since 2017 and would happily call it his home.
Qualifications and training
Aden has a Master’s degree in the Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health from King’s College London with Distinction, and another Master’s equivalence in Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic Clinical Practice (MPPClinPrac) from the University of Exeter. He has received additional clinical training in integrative psychotherapy and psychoanalytic theory both here in Hanoi and with the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust in London. He also has an MA in European Politics and a BA in Philosophy and English from the University of Sussex and the University of Amsterdam.
Aden is currently a Doctor of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Clinical Practice (DPPClinPrac) candidate with the University of Exeter, the British Psychotherapy Foundation and the British Psychoanalytic Council.
He is currently offering a reduced-fee for 3 x weekly psychoanalytic psychotherapy for a maximum of two potential longer term patients, as part of this programme. Those who are interested in this, or how psychoanalytic work may be of benefit, are encouraged to reach out to Aden in writing at adenhsimpson@gmail.com or to visit his website at www.hanoipsychotherapy.com
